Zahava Recovery – Day 16

Zahava has been moved to a stroke ward at the Royal Brisbane. This is good because the ICU where she was always had ongoing tests and people going in and out, with no real chance for rest.

Now she is in the ward she is still constantly monitored, but not as invasively. She can breath on her own via the tracheostomy and eats smoothies via a tube down her nose. At the moment she is very tired and only rouses a couple of times per day where she opens her eyes fully and acknowledges me and phil. She communicates with her left foot, and her right side remains largely motionless, although we only ask one or two questions because she tires quickly.

At the moment her condition isn’t any worse or better, we just try and give her as much rest as she can get in between the x-rays, drugs, moving her into different positions and all the other things they do to her in hospital. Our hope is that with rest she shows increased responsiveness, but at the moment it’s all about patience.

We appreciate your ongoing support. Phil and I are with her as much as we can during the day and go home for sleep and dinner. We understand you may wish to come visit her, but for the moment please consider how tired she is and save your energy for prayers for her.

Thank you,

Yaro and Phil

I just found out about Zahava. I am so sorry. I was looking forward to the seminar with her in a couple of weeks. She is strong and determined. I wish her family support, encouragement and keep up the great work. Come on Zahava you can do it!

Zahava you gave me so many positives when you were my teacher. I am returning those positives with plenty of extras for you and for your recovery. I know that would make you smile. Best, best wishes. Judi

I have only just learned of Zahava’s stroke just now and am deeply saddened to think of her struggle. Zahava mentored me at AIPC for almost 7 years and I was blessed to have her in my life at this time. I left AIPC almost 1 year ago and have taken much of what Zahava taught me into my new career.
Zahava, you are a true warrior and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
x

I only just read today about Zahava’s struggle -my thoughts go out to you all. My sister suffered a massive stroke 3 years ago due to a heart condition (endocarditis) no one knew she had. She couldn’t eat or speak or move her head herself and they told us she would never walk again. We sat by her bed for about 3 months, sending her our love and strength and support, and amazingly, she eventually moved, talked, ate, and then walked again, with a lot of hard work and a strong determination. Now, although she has trouble with her left arm and leg, she works part time, drives, and lives independantly once again. She’s an inspiration to us as I guess we were to her at that time. Wishing you both and Zahava positive thoughts, and I hope in 3 years you are telling a story just like this one. Look after yourselves too.

I know Zahava only through professional means, but was struck by her generosity of spirit and open heart.

I am hopeful all will be positive for her as she has given so much positive energy to everyone she meets.

Yaro and Phil – my thoughts are with you and all that you are both facing (having been through something similar within my family in recent times)..

You be by her side, holding her hands; the rest of us will hold her in our hearts and send all our best wishes.
